LAAS in the Times re: Rochdale by-election

LAAS statement and complaint

The Times report on LAAS reaction to Azhar Ali

The Times quoted Labour Against Antisemitism and also a complaint by co-director Alex Hearn regarding the Rochdale by-election situation

Labour withdraws support for Azhar Ali in antisemitism row

Earlier today a director of Labour Against Antisemitism (LAAS), a campaign group set up by Labour members, submitted an official complaint about Ali. LAAS is not affiliated to the Labour Party but Alex Hearn, one of its directors, is a party member and submitted the compliant.

In it he said: “The accusation that Jews plotted a massacre of innocent people for their own bloodthirsty gain is antisemitic.”

LAAS said in a statement: “We were appalled by Mr Ali’s comments and call for his immediate suspension. Sir Keir Starmer made good progress fighting antisemitism in the Labour Party, but this episode shows that more needs to be done or it risks becoming a bigger problem.”
